Horizontal Belt Filter Successfully Commissioned for India’s Second Largest Phosphate Fertilizer Producer

DELKOR beats client target to commission a 110 m² Horizontal Belt Filter (HBF) for a 450 tpd phosphoric acid plant in early February 2020.

Horizontal Belt Filter Successfully Commissioned for India’s Second Largest Phosphate Fertilizer Producer

DELKOR are proud to announce the successful commissioning, ahead of the client’s target date, of a 110 m² DELKOR Horizontal Belt Filter (HBF) for one of the most challenging filtration applications, the production of phosphoric acid. The belt filter package was supplied within an EPC contract to M/s Coromandel International Limited (CIL), India’s second largest phosphate fertilizer player, for installation as part of the 450 tpd expansion to its plant in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.

The scope of the project covered design, engineering, supply, civil work, construction, site erection and commissioning of the horizontal belt filter with ancillaries and complete 3D modeling. The ancillaries included vessels, filtrate pumps, wash pumps, air blowers, valves and piping. The supplied system is ready for the integration of advanced control using Industry 4.0 technology

Given the highly corrosive nature of phosphoric acid, DELKOR designed and manufactured the filters using corrosion resistant material, such as stainless steel for the frames, vacuum boxes, feeders and air boxes, an EPDM rubber transporter belt and GRP (glass-reinforced plastic) for the fume hood used to contain acid fumes.

In line with DELKOR’s commitment to SAFETY FIRST, site activities were completed successfully with zero LTIs (lost time injuries). Activities included working at height and considerable quantities of scaffolding work.

Precise planning and scheduling substantially reduced erection time on site. DELKOR’s approach included a mock assembly of the major components of the belt filter and the fabricated plant piping at the DELKOR India fabrication facility in Bangalore.

The 450 tpd expansion to the plant was inaugurated by CIL on 13 Feb 2020 attended by CIL Executive Management together with various DELKOR colleagues, with Vinay Kumar Sandur, Vice President – Projects, having this to say from site: “The safe and successful implementation of such a complex project clearly demonstrates our horizontal belt filter capabilities across the dewatering spectrum. With this achievement, we continue to entrench ourselves as a leading global provider of dewatering equipment and, once again, demonstrating that: "It pays to talk to a specialist!”
