In his new role, Ignacio Fernandez will lead the TAKRAF teams in Chile and Peru and will report directly to Thomas Jabs, CEO of TAKRAF Group. Based in Santiago de Chile, Ignacio succeeds Luca Romanengo, who will remain in a key role at the company’s headquarters in Leipzig, Germany. TAKRAF Group sincerely thanks Luca for his strong engagement, commitment and valuable contributions during his time with TAKRAF Chile and TAKRAF Peru.
Ignacio brings more than two decades of leadership experience in the mining, energy and infrastructure sectors, with a strong track record in business development, project delivery and leading multicultural teams across Chile, Australia and Argentina. He most recently served as General Manager for the Latin American region at Terra Nova Technologies.
His previous positions also include senior operational leadership roles at major construction companies, where he contributed to the delivery of prominent mining projects such as Chuquicamata Underground, Spence Growth Option, El Teniente, Quebrada Blanca 2 and Nueva Centinela.
“I have long been impressed by TAKRAF Group’s projects across the region, including the Chuquicamata Underground project and the Escondida crushing stations. South America presents significant opportunities for further growth, particularly in this new era of metals mining. The growing demand for critical minerals is creating strong potential for the Group in both capital projects and after-sales services, as we continue to build long-lerm relationships with our clients.”
Ignacio has extensive experience across Chile’s main mining operations, both underground and open-pit, and has successfully delivered large-scale projects under a variety of contract models ranging from hard-dollar to collaborative approaches. He is a civil engineer, holds a Master of Business Administration and recently completed the General Management Program at Harvard Business School.
“Ignacio brings deep mining industry expertise, a global perspective and strong regional experience to his new role. His leadership capabilities, project delivery background and customer-focused mindset make him ideally suited to guide TAKRAF Chile and TAKRAF Peru into the next phase of growth,” said Thomas Jabs, CEO of TAKRAF Group.
With the appointment of Ignacio, TAKRAF Chile and TAKRAF Peru enter an exciting new chapter as the teams continue to build on their strong foundations and drive future growth in one of the world’s most important mining regions. With South America as a central market on the critical minerals agenda, TAKRAF Group is well positioned to further strengthen its role as a trusted partner to the mining industry.
For Mining with Meaning.
