Grab-type ship unloaders: reliable dry bulk unloading

TAKRAF Grab Type Ship Unloaders provide reliable and efficient unloading of bulk materials such as iron ore, bauxite, limestone, phosphate, various fertilizers, potash, coal, petroleum coke and other dry bulk commodities. The unloader operates with a wire rope grab bucket to extract material directly from the ship’s hold and transfer it to the hopper, enabling continuous and reliable unloading operations in ports and terminals.

Key features

  • Flexible operation: Can handle a wide variety of bulk materials with different densities and particle sizes
  • High unloading rates: Capacities typically range from 400 t/h to over 2,600 t/h, depending on vessel size and type of material handled
  • Robust design: Built for harsh marine environments, with corrosion protection and cranes and winch support for safe maintenance

Applications

  • Ports and terminals handling dry bulk materials
  • Coastal and river terminals for power plants, cement industries and steel plants
  • Operations requiring flexible berth usage to accommodate a variety of vessel sizes

Grab ship unloader variants

TAKRAF Group offers the following grab type ship unloaders:

Grab ship unloader with cable-operated grab trolley (GSU)

These machines are equipped with a raise-and-lower seaborne arm and a cable-operated grab trolley for efficient unloading operations. The drive winches that manage all working movements, i.e. grab lifting, lowering, opening and closing, cross travel, and boom lifting and lowering, are mounted in the main structure. Due to the relatively small mass of the grab, high acceleration and trolley speeds can be achieved.

Basic technical data:

  • Unloading capacity: 400 - 2,500 t/h
  • Rail gauge: 7 - 28 m
  • Vessel size: 10,000 - 350,000 DWT

Grab ship unloader with trolley-mounted winches (GVB)

These machines are designed with the motors for the grab actions and cross travel housed in the trolley, whilst the driving winches for lifting and lowering the boom are mounted in the main structure.

Basic technical data:

  • Unloading capacity: 400 - 2,500 t/h
  • Rail gauge: 30 - 90 m
  • Vessel size: 10,000 - 350,000 DWT

Integrated port facilities and systems

TAKRAF’s port solutions are employed throughout the world. Boasting high technical standards and state-of-the-art designs, our systems satisfy the toughest demands faced by modern ports. Typical downstream integrations include hopper extraction via Apron feeders and optional lump size control using Sizers before stockyard or plant transfer.
