TAKRAF Group provides a global engineering network, making use of a versatile pool of specialists in, amongst other disciplines, mine planning, process planning and conceptual planning, as well as in mechanical, structural and electrical design, drafting and detailing.
Our global rotation of our workforce, in combination with our local representatives, enables TAKRAF to execute projects of varying scale in most countries of the world. This arrangement enables both an in-depth understanding of the specific requirements of relevant national standards/building codes and implementation of best practice learnings from across the globe.
Engineering stages
Our engineering approach is either customized to our client’s preferences or follows TAKRAF standard procedures. Accordingly, stages and gates, as well as the starting point of TAKRAF involvement, may differ. Typical engineering stages with associated results (simplified) are:
- Study engineering - feasibility and CAPEX/OPEX indications
- Early engineering - customized layouts and work-points
- Approval engineering - main dimensions, maintainability and interfaces
- Basic engineering - structural analysis and detailed OEM components
- Detail engineering - creation of content for fabrication
- Post engineering - completion of documentation
Functional safety & health, safety, environment and community (HSEC) in design
Safety is the core of our culture and defines how we approach engineering activities. TAKRAF takes responsibility for ensuring that its products contribute to a safe working environment for the operator. That commitment extends to compliance with relevant standards and hazard and risk analysis and may require a thorough functional safety lifecycle analysis.
Full EIC integration
We provide fully integrated solutions, including electrical, instrumentation and controls (EIC) aspects, with the associated control philosophy, including embedding in brownfield interfaces as required.

The methodologies used within individual projects may largely differ and may range from a classic transmittal approach, over a semi-intelligent key-list approach to fully intelligent workflows.
Structural and mechanical design
Thorough and diligent structural engineering defines the longevity of assets, specifically those in fatigue-sensitive applications, and ensures safety of operation. Aside from our extensive expertise applying relevant building codes, TAKRAF makes use of different design tools for finite-element modeling (FEM) analysis, beam/truss calculation and modelling.
Our mechanical engineering team supports the design of our own engineered mechanical components, as well as the integration of OEM mechanical components.
Extreme conditions
As TAKRAF equipment is expected to operate reliably in harsh environments around the globe, we provide customized solutions, based on our extensive experience of challenging conditions, for operations involving:
- Dusty mining environments, involving abrasive or sticky material
- Corrosive environments for port applications or salt handling
- Extreme sun/heat or extremely low temperatures/cold
- Changes in elevations from a mountain ridge to an underground mine
- High seismic activity
